TW: Violence against women
The issue of violence against women is not a new one. But these past couple of weeks have been especially devastating, both in Israel and in the United States.
Miya Marcano was only 19 years old when she was abducted then murdered in Florida by a man who’s romantic advances she turned down. He was a maintenance worker in the building where she lived, and used a master key to gain entrance to her apartment.
Lital Yael Malnik was only 17 when her body was found at a construction site in Kiryat Motzkin in Israel. She was murdered by a 49 years old man who was romantically involved with her and seem to have planned the murder in advance.
There are so many cases, every single day, who go unresolved. There are so many victims whose cries we don’t hear. The existing systems fail these young women, and we meet them at ELEM all the time. We help whenever we can, we do our best, but a major shift needs to happen.
Until then, we’ll keep hearing stories like those of Miya and Lital.
May they rest in peace.
