ELEM’s Drop-in Centers provide safe, welcoming spaces for youth across Israel—located both within schools and as independent neighborhood hubs. These centers offer informal, accessible support for teens experiencing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges.
Established to meet youth exactly where they are, the centers create bridges between young people and the help they often need but hesitate to seek. Whether inside educational institutions or out in their communities, each center is designed for teens navigating difficulties such as isolation, anxiety, family conflict, or exposure to abuse, addiction, or homelessness.
ELEM’s school-based and community-based centers respond to the growing need for approachable, stigma-free mental health and social support. Over time, they have evolved to reflect Israel’s cultural and regional diversity and now operate across multiple cities and populations.
The youth who attend ELEM’s Drop-in Centers reflect the full diversity of Israeli society—Jewish, Arab, Christian, and Druze teens; new immigrants and native-born Israelis; members of the LGBTQIA+ community; and youth from ultra-Orthodox and Bedouin communities.
Many face instability at home or challenges at school and are at risk of social withdrawal or dropping out of formal education altogether. ELEM’s approach focuses on building trust through informal, culturally sensitive engagement that bridges the gap between youth and the support systems they often avoid or distrust.
What Happens at the Drop-In Centers
Each Drop-in Center offers a safe, consistent environment where teens can talk with trusted adults, connect with peers, and participate in meaningful activities. Services include:
Individual and group guidance sessions
Conversation circles and creative workshops
Educational enrichment and skill-building programs
Access to supportive adults and mentors
Referrals to professional or therapeutic services
The informal, youth-centered atmosphere encourages openness and reduces resistance to seeking help. For many, it is the first place they feel seen, heard, and valued—helping them begin the journey toward stability, resilience, and belonging.
Reaching the Margins of Israeli Society
These centers serve youth from all corners of society, ensuring that no young person is left without support due to their background, identity, or location.
The model’s strength lies in its adaptability: each center reflects the local community’s cultural context while maintaining ELEM’s core commitment to empathy, inclusion, and empowerment.
Expansion
With your support, ELEM aims to:
Expand the number of Drop-in Centers across additional schools and communities
Reach more youth in underserved and marginalized areas
Increase staffing to provide greater access to individualized support
Develop new, culturally relevant programming co-created with the youth themselves
