This week we wanted to share 3 tips to protect yourself on online games and apps courtesy of ELEM digital.
- Note suspicious users – Hackers using anonymous or fake accounts can trick you, steal your identity and harass you.
- Don’t share personal details such as address, phone number, school or date of birth.
- Proper time management. Excessive use can lead to lower mood and other side effects. Try to decrease the amount of time spent on games and apps.
ELEM’s digital field identifies teens and young adults in distress online, provides a professional therapeutic assistance online
and develops innovative ways to work in these informal spaces. The tips above were shared on their social media alongside other helpful information for teens.
In 2022 ELEM digital served 3,700 youth and young adults online. This year, many online interactions concerned emotional distress. With youth
sharing their experience of severe isolation, lack of feeling seen by those around them, and about difficulties making social connections. In addition, a vast majority of youth reported experiencing difficulties in their relationships with their parents.
Some of the achievements from the previous year included a a joint project with the Child Online Protection Bureau 105 and establishing a team serving the Arab community and designated track and intervene online through individual chat, WhatsApp and TikTok.
