What is The Shelter for Homeless Young Women in Jerusalem?

The Shelter is an emergency lodging center for homeless young women. Open 365 days a year from 10:00 p.m. until 11:00 a.m., the program unconditionally offers women a secure place to stay at night. The shelter provides humanitarian aid, hot showers, food and clothing. The women receive counseling regarding their legal rights. The shelter can serve as a starting point for the process of change.

Who is served?

Homeless young women aged 18-26 are at extreme risk. The majority are substance abusers and detached from any therapeutic, social or family support system. These are women who feel they have no choice but to turn to crime, prostitution or addictions as survival strategies.

100% of the young women who stay at the Shelter experience homelessness, poverty and malnutrition. 93% have endured sexual abuse, 87% experience physical violence, 80% suffer from substance abuse problems and 71% are involved in prostitution.

There is a rise in the number of pregnancies among homeless young women and an increased number of relationships amongst the youth.
