This week marks the International Week of the Deaf People which celebrates deaf culture, and this year also highlights human rights.
During the summer months we held a very special lecture at our Lighthouse / Migdalor Center in Holon.
We always try to empower and inspire our youth, and on that particular afternoon, we heard from Shirly Shalom Cohen, who shared about her childhood as a hearing daughter with two deaf parents. As a child, she became the voice of her household.
Maybe this will remind you of one of the most talked about films of the summer – CODA, directed by Sian Heder.
Shirly’s story inspired the youth, showing them that they could face challenges, learn from them and grow, as did Shirly and her parents, together.
Shirly, thank you so much for this beautiful lecture!
