A CRISIS IN ISRAEL THREATENS THE VERY CORE OF THE COUNTRY

Among Israel’s nearly 800,000 teenagers, 200,000 (25%) are troubled or "at-risk."

Many have severe anxiety, suicidal tendencies and are isolated from society. Those are alarming numbers, especially in a small country where everyone has a vital role to play.

ELEM/Youth in Distress in Israel

helps vulnerable and at-risk youth who have fallen through the cracks of society get off the streets and on to life.

These youth are abused, mired in prostitution and crime, and suffer from the ongoing stress of potential violence. Abandoning school and living in vacant apartments, they are invisible to many people.

ELEM knows how to break through to youth who've left the mainstream and lost faith in their futures. To provide counsel to countries around the globe, The United Nations has given ELEM special consultative status.

Our Model is Unique

We speak young peoples' language, mirror their style and use an innovative brand of outreach to cultivate trust. ELEM's drop-in centers are designed like coffee houses to encourage conversation. The 12,500 youth we help annually both in-person and online come from every ethnic and religious group in the country, including Arabs, Jews, Muslims and Christians.

To provide counsel to countries around the globe, The United Nations has given ELEM special consultative status.

ELEM's street-savvy staff don't sit behind desks but meet teens and young adults on their turf. They go to the streets with specially-fitted outreach vans, to clubs and massive rave parties, and online, where thousands of youth reach out to us. Youth come to ELEM voluntarily and no one is ever turned away.
